Among other activities related to protection of Museum’s collections, Center for Conservation of the National Museum in Belgrade implements research projects and studies in the field of prevention, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage.
Center’s systematic research in the area of prevention and conservation includes examination and research of museum artifacts in terms of their origin, materials, content, techniques and technologies used for artifacts’ production, current condition and reasons for deterioration. Furthermore, through its research the Centre is monitoring the development of examination methods as well as development and improvement of methods for conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. This includes examination and research of the environmental influences on cultural heritage, research on materials and methods that could be applied for slowing down, stopping and preventing the process of dilapidation and research on non-destructive methods that could be applied in the process of conservation and restoration.
